Basque coast
- Bayonne: wander through the narrow streets, taste its chocolate (Bayonne is the French chocolate capital) and visit the Basque Museum, cathedral and Roman ruins
- Biarritz: visit the Maritime Museum, go on the lighthouse trail, walk to the Basque Coast (2km) via the Main Beach, Fishing Port and the Old Port. Finish up with tapas at the ‘Jean’ bar on the market square
- Drive to the Basque Country villages Arcangues, Cambo, Espelette, Ainho, Sare. Have lunch in a Spanish ‘venta’ (inn) at the border
- Saint-Jean Pied de Port (go on market day), 45 minutes away. A charming, inland Basque town
- Coastal path: Follow the cliff road along roads and cliffs from Saint-Jean de Luz to Hendaye (stunning views)
- Saint-Jean de Luz (40 minutes): wander along its narrow streets, and visit the enormous beach and Ciboure fishing port.

- San Sebastian (1 hour): the beach town of the Spanish aristocracy. Walk along the ‘concha’ (beach), enjoy some great shopping and traditional tapas
